Aftaletter: African Developers, viewed Differently

As the tech world continues to evolve at a rapid pace, a new generation of talent is emerging, challenging stereotypes and rewriting the rules: African developers. With Aftaletter, twice a month, we highlight the brightest profiles from the continent. they don’t just code, the also inspire.

Who would have thought, just five years ago, that African developers would be recognized as among the best in the world? And yet, today, they are establishing themselves as leading figures in the international tech ecosystem. As an African, it is a source of immense pride to experience this digital revolution and to see homegrown talent shine in a sector that is both competitive and challenging. But behind the successes lies a complex reality. Driven by a thirst for recognition, our developers strive for excellence, sometimes at the cost of heavy sacrifices. Their quest for “pink flowers”, a symbol of beauty, success and respect, does not go without removing the thorns from the path. Through Aftaletter, we invite you to discover these exceptional journeys between ambition, resilience and hope.

African developers in a quest for recognition and equity.

As an African, I feel very proud to see our talents emerge in the ongoing technological revolution. Despite the challenges, African developers are excelling in a demanding sector, driven by a thirst for recognition and equity. But this quest is not without pain. In many African countries, the lack of recognition and fair remuneration is holding back their development, while the fruits of their labours too often benefit the leaders. In our company, the “boss” often reaps the fruits of hard work, while the developers sweat far more than just sweat. They invest their intelligence, passion and resilience, but too often without the recognition or compensation they deserve. This injustice is unacceptable. At ZeGuild, we stand for a vision where African developers receive what is due to them: fair treatment, remuneration commensurate with their talent and a fair and sustainable tech ecosystem.

Supporting the emergence of African tech talent on a global scale for a more equitable paradigm

At Zeguild, we firmly believe that African developers deserve fair treatment and remuneration worthy of their talent. A fair remuneration is the engine of their development and of the growth of the tech sector on the continent. But for this to become a reality, collective mobilization is necessary. It is not enough that developers fight alone: journalists, public actors and opinion leaders must also carry this fight. Thanks to telework, the opportunities are now endless.

Zeguild launched Aftaletter, a newsletter that highlights outstanding African developers who can compete with the world’s best talent. These experts, who have collaborated with giants like Google, Mozilla and Accenture, are redefining the technology scene. Take the example of Yves Kotlin, a Congolese developer who has become a figurehead in open-source Android, a flagship product of Google. technological.
